Unicauca mourns the death of Pathologist Ángel José Ceballos Mendoza
The Former Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Ángel José Ceballos Mendoza, passed away in the last hours, leaving a mark difficult to erase on the university community, on his patients and on his family.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news of our very beloved professor Ángel José Ceballos Mendoza, a native of Santa Marta and a Caucan by adoption and conviction, a great academic, researcher, leader, athlete and cultural promoter. The University undoubtedly loses a great human being, his work represented in the thousands of doctors he trained and his imprint that he left in the different fields where he served the community make him a reference for future generations of teachers. Peace in the grave of my dear teacher, from today you are with your beloved Sonia; God and the Virgin accompany you ".
With these words, the rector of the University of Cauca, José Luis Diago Franco expresses his message of solidarity and condolence for the death of Pathologist Ángel José Ceballos Mendoza, who was a teacher and Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. The Cauca Alma Mater expresses his sense of condolence through a Rectoral Resolution in which he highlights his human values and professional quality that characterized him in every moment of his life.
Doctor Ángel José Ceballos Mendoza was a Doctor and Lawyer, with a Specialization in Administrative Law, Specialization in Pathological Anatomy and Clinical Pathology, Magister in Public Health. He was linked to the University of Cauca from 1980 to 2016, when he retired, guiding subjects in areas such as Public Health, Preventive Medicine, Occupational Health, Legal Medicine, Medical Ethics, Pathology, among others.
He was Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Representative of the Alumni before the Superior Council and President of the Association of Alumni of Unicauca, where he advanced several days of updating for the professionals graduated in the different areas of knowledge
Similarly, Doctor Ceballos Mendoza provided professional services in the Cauca Health Secretariat as Coordinator of the Maternal and Child Program and Head of Medical Care, he was also a Pathologist at the San José University Hospital and was a member of the Cauca Pathologists Company .
Among the recognitions of his professional work, his appointment as President of the Colombian Society of Pathology stands out, where he carried out actions to promote the advancement of pathological anatomy in all its areas, such as scientific, moral, ethical, academic and seeking for the economic and social well-being of all its members.
The University of Cauca awarded him the Eminent Professor Medal in 2014, highlighting his contribution to the development of the Medicine program in the training of professionals in the health area.
Although he was born in Santa Marta, Doctor Ángel José Ceballos Mendoza lived a large part of his life in Popayán, where he had his home next to his wife, Sonia García (RIP), and his daughters Ana María, Sonia and Juliana Ceballos García, a family admired for their ethical and moral values. On a personal level, Doctor Ceballos had the sympathy of the people, thanks to his collaborative spirit, joy and support that he always projected.
