The GRIAN Anesthesiology Research Group of the University of Cauca, made up of teachers and resident doctors of the San José University Hospital, leads this proposal that seeks to analyze the variables that influence the time to surgery, the impact of this injury on quality Life span and mortality in patients with hip fracture.

The project led by the GRIAN Anesthesiology Research Group, attached to the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Cauca, obtained recognition for the best scientific poster for the work "Factors that delay hip fracture surgery and its outcomes. Prospective Cohort (HIPCCO) "during the XVI Latin American Meeting of Hip and Knee Surgeons of the Colombian Society of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology SCCOT.

The GRIAN Anesthesiology Research Group is made up of professors Ángela María Merchán from the Department of Social Medicine and Family Health; José Andrés Calvache and Juan Pablo Caicedo from the Department of Anesthesiology; Juan Manuel Concha from the Department of Surgical Sciences and the residents of Anesthesiology David Andrés Muñoz, Felipe Solano and Nelson Sotelo; in collaboration with the doctors of the Hospital Universitario San José HUSJ Julián Camilo Velásquez and David Molina and the doctor María José Martínez of the Institute of Reserca of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau - Centro Cochrane Iberoamericano in Barcelona (Spain).

In this way, the group of researchers since January 2019 implemented a cohort study in patients admitted to the San José HUSJ University Hospital with hip fracture to analyze the variables that influence the time to surgery, the impact of this injury in quality of life and mortality.

At the Latin American Meeting of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the preliminary report of the first year of this study was presented with a three-month follow-up of 65 patients; reporting that this type of fracture occurs mainly in women, older than 65 years secondary to a fall from their own height, which is related to age. Despite having a significant surgical delay as recommended by international guidelines, we have a lower mortality than that described in other studies without significantly affecting quality of life.

The event, organized by the Colombian Society of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology, took place from December 2 to 5, 2020 and addressed issues related to controversies in primary hip and knee arthroplasty, arthroplasty complications, new technologies and updated techniques under review. In addition, it had the participation of more than 59 invited national and international speakers.
