The Civil Engineer, Harold Muñoz Muñoz, was rector of the University of  Cauca between 1983 and 1986, a period in which he led the process of rebuilding the university headquarters after the Popayán earthquake in 1983. He died in the city of Bogotá.

 

Voices of solidarity and condolence on the part of institutions, companies, organizations, associations, among others, have been received by the sensitive death of the former Rector of the University of Cauca, Civil Engineer Harold Muñoz Muñoz, which occurred over the weekend in the city of Bogota

Recognized for his human values, professional commitment and institutional sense, the Civil Engineer Harold Muñoz Muñoz will be remembered by the university community and society in general for his contributions to academia, the business sector and civil engineering, especially in the area of ​​structures.

 

Civil Engineer Harold Muñoz Muñoz carried out undergraduate studies at the University of Cauca and postgraduate studies at the University of Massachusetts, the National Autonomous University and the Mexican Institute of Cement and Concrete.

 

As rector of the University of Cauca Harold Muñoz Muñoz, directed the reconstruction of the University of Cauca, semi destroyed by the 1983 earthquake, establishing a plan that involved administrative, academic and infrastructure issues at the different headquarters of the institution.

 

He was a member of the Superior Council of the University of Cauca as Representative of the former rectors (2004 - 2005) and as Representative of the President of the Republic (2005), he also formed the Academic Council as Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering. Professor of undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Cauca, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and the Colombian School of Engineering Julio Garavito.

 

He stood out as a speaker and lecturer in multiple national and international congresses and seminars on construction and pathology of concrete structures. Author of the works "Conception and behavior of structures" (2002), "Construction of concrete structures" (2004), and "Earthquake resistant design and construction manual", representative for Colombia in the Ibero-American Network for the Rehabilitation of Structures specific.

 

As a sign of mourning, the University of Cauca will hold the institutional flag at half-staff for three days, while expressing a voice of solidarity and condolence to the family of Engineer Harold Muñoz Muñoz, through various administrative acts.
