The repertoire is part of the works of the Bachelor's Degree Project in Band Conducting by the student Salomé Gómez Burbano, called “From the West to the East and from Africa to the Colombian Pacific”.

Salomé Gómez Burbano, student of the Band Directing program of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Cauca, with her project "Rio y Mar, a Journey through the Colombian South Pacific," was selected as the winner of the Seventh Call for Encourages to Culture and Wellbeing Projects 2020. With this initiative, the Vice-Rector's Office for Culture and Wellbeing seeks to strengthen the projects presented by Alma Mater students, teachers, and administrative staff, such as creations and developments that impact the community and create healthy living environments and encourage creativity, inclusion, and teamwork.

Rio y Mar, is the name of the musical composition for the Symphonic Band, choir, marimba de chonta and cantaoras by Salomé Gómez Burbano. “With the encouragement of Culture and Well-being, we will give life to music with an important element, the audiovisual; in this way we will transport the audience on a sound and visual journey, where we will visit mangroves, rivers and seas of the Colombian Pacific, ”said the author of this project.

Sea and River’s production is possible thanks to the teamwork of the “La Bocana Collective” and valuable alliances with the Universidad del Cauca Symphonic Band and “Aquelarre” Lab of visual design and comunication. The project will bring together 40 musicians on a prerecorded virtual scene, including 30 wind instrumentalists, eight choristers, two cantaoras from the Pacific and the director who will also be a soloist on the chonta marimba. “We will record the second movement of Sea and River, and as part of the trip through the Pacific we will also record Tío Guachupecito, a composition by Antero Agualimpía, adapted for Banda Sinfónica by Freddy Colina Santos.

The young woman from Nicaragua is the leader of the artistic collective "La Bocana", an interdisciplinary group of artists where music, audiovisual and communication converge, to develop a collaborative work around the creation, dissemination, dissemination and research of musical practices in Cauca. Salomé Gómez Burbano, has been the winner of the Petronio Álvarez Festival on several occasions; She was also awarded as the best chonta marimba performer in 2015.

As a student of the Band Conducting program, she was admitted as orchestral regent in January 2019, at the International Festival of Santa Catarina in Brazil; She has also participated as guest conductor of the University of Cauca Symphonic Band and the Symphonic Orchestra Network of Musical Training Schools; In addition, she has worked as a musical leader in various traditional and fusion music groups.
