Open Science is a movement, which tends because, in the whole process of scientific activity: products, data, software, hardware, peer evaluation and elements such as educational aids can circulate freely and expeditiously so that they are used by the scientific community. In this way, Professor Carolina Delgado, director of the Scientometrics Committee of the University of Cauca, explains the step towards Open Science that the Alma Mater of the Caucans began.

Along this path, the Vice-Rector's Office for Research and Academics, with the support of the Scientometrics Committee, the Libraries Division and the three main Institutional journals; Biotechnology in the Agricultural and Agroindustrial Sector; Journal of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Colombian News, receive support from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and the Colombian Network of Scientific Information RedCol in the maturation and fine-tuning of the Institutional Repository to be part of the RedCol National Repository, where more than 57 National Universities converge, and later migrate to the Latin American Context in the great LaReferencia repository.

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation through the National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Document No. 1801 'Guidelines for an Open Science Policy in Colombia' defines this movement as the practice that allows access and participation of different actors in the processes of generation and use of scientific knowledge through Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

“The University of Cauca will work in three different phases. The first consists in adapting its institutional repository so that the data, in terms of normalization, can be read by the large national repository. The second phase involves making the technological management of that repository so that it is visible, is in two languages and that articles and products can also be downloaded and not just a repository for referencing. This implies an effort, since it is to have a whole model of intellectual property to protect these products of scientific research. The third phase is much more captivating, since it is the step towards Latin America because, in the hands of the Ministry, the University will take the step towards LA Reference, which is the great repository of Latin America in which we hope to enter to make available to the world our research products ”, adds the teacher.

The Scientometrics Committee, which has in its work aspects related to the measurement, evaluation and assessment of scientific activity, with the decided support of the rector José Luis Diago Franco, will be in charge of the accompaniment so that the University of Cauca, collecting all your human resource, carry out this successful step that leaves learning for your community, “since the value of research is evidenced from the data of research production which must be protected, but in turn shared to society so that generate more knowledge ”.
