Lumen Thought Center was presented at the Conversation: The University after the Pandemic

Discussing and presenting proposals around the role of the academy in today's society is the objective that was presented in the Virtual Conversation: The University after the Pandemic, opening the space to analyze the University's past, the current role and the role that higher education must assume in the future in its work for the common good in an integral way; also to fulfill its work of service to the country with its contributions in research on the Coronavirus. The panelists who participated in the Conversation also spoke about the challenge that higher education is facing with face-to-face classes suspended and the need to continue with the development of the semester.

 

In this first meeting, the rector of the University of Cauca, José Luis Diago Franco, the Ex Rector Hernán Otoniel Fernández, the Ex Rector Danilo Reinaldo Vivas Ramos and the President of ASECAUCA, Carlos Manquillo, participated with the moderation of the Coordinator of the Graduate Area, Juan Carlos Varona, who presented their visions, experiences and knowledge about higher education and the role they must play in society.

 

This initiative of the Graduate Area of ​​the Universidad del Cauca, with the support of the Luca Center for Thought in Asecauca, was aimed at generating and consolidating a space for deliberation, generation of knowledge and proposals aimed at strengthening the University of Cauca, considering the social and community impact that it promotes to positively influence education, the construction of the country and the improvement of public policies and knowledge networks at the regional, national and international levels, said Juan Carlos Varona, coordinator of the Graduate Area.

 

Professor Varona indicated that the Lumen Thought Center was created through an alliance between the University and the Association of Graduates, in order to position the institution as an intellectual and scientific benchmark through studies, reports and documents that contain analysis, conclusions and recommendations aimed at public and private entities for a better quality of life for citizens.

 

Likewise, the University of Cauca is expected to participate in important decisions in the country for its objectivity and transparency; Also, that they can comment, propose, recommend strategies and guidelines together with their graduates, researchers, experts and professionals, who will form study groups on issues related to competitiveness, sustainability, leadership and innovation; science, technology, infrastructure, telecommunications, agriculture, energy, medicine, environment, sustainable development and professional ethics, among other important aspects of social interest.

 

The Center for Thought, Lumen, began its activities through a series of highly relevant talks, the first being: The University After the Pandemics. This activity was possible thanks to the collaboration and the spaces opened by the University through the Graduates office and the team of the Communications Management Center headed by its director Pilar Campos, said Professor Juan Carlos Varona.
