Tuna of the University of Cauca participates in an international meeting
La Tuna of the University of Cauca continues to represent the institution in continental meetings. This time, it is part of a large multicultural program in the XXVII International Meeting of Tunas 2017, held in Arequipa (Peru).
"Everything has been great, we have shared with tuna from Mexico, Bolivia, Chile, and Peru. Today we participated in a pasacalle and people were very enthusiastic about us as a Colombian group. We were in the event opening, where a present is given to the Municipality of Arequipa mayor," said María Lucía Palomino, a member of the university Tuna.
He emphasized that initially they had a matinee and a first gala, in which "there was many people in attendance. The people of Arequipa are very friendly and enthusiastic people. It has been a good opportunity, they have been very happy with our work."
It should be noted that the University Tuna of Popayán, part of the city’s cultural heritage, was started in 1963, four years before that of the Universidad Javeriana’s of Bogotá. In 1991, the composer from the state of Buenos Aires, Gustavo Gómez Mosquera, who had created the previous tuna, with the support of the then president of the University of Cauca, Hernán Otoniel Fernández, founded the tuna and made up of men and women of the Alma Máter, which lasted ten years.
In 2013, the University Administration proposed to the composer Gómez Mosquera, to reactivate the Tuna of the University, with the support of the Vice-Rectory of Culture and Welfare and since then has had important activities, recovering the joy that by nature provides a tuna.
