Unicauca graduated 40 students in Ethno-Education in Guapi
The ceremony was attended by the president José Luis Diago Franco, Faculty of Human and Social Sciences dean Zamira Díaz, Director of the Regionalization Center William García and the Department of Intercultural Studies teachers.
On Sunday, May 21st, in the Higher Educational Normal’s main auditorium of the coastal town of Guapi, the event was held graduating 40 students in a degree of ethnic education of the University of Cauca, an act that jointly celebrated the National Afro-Colombian Day.
This ceremony was also part of an academic and cultural program of African Heritage Month, currently being carried out by the Department of Intercultural Studies and the Degree in Ethnic Education and the Center for Ethnic Memory.
The Ethnic Education degree of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences is the first program of the Alma Mater in the Guapi municipality, starting in 2012; A process managed by the Ministry of National Education resources, which made it possible to reserve about 100 seats to in-service teachers, junior high school students from urban and rural communities of the Guapi, Timbiquí and El Charco municipalities.
In 2015, the first group’s graduation was carried out, students who after completing the cycle of eight semesters, obtained a degree as graduates in Ethnic Education.
Thus, on Sunday, the second graduation ceremony of forty students took place. The session was attended by the President of the University of Cauca, Dr. José Luis Diago; The Faculty of Human and Social Sciences dean Professor Zamira Díaz, and professors José Antonio Caicedo Ortiz and Elizabeth Castillo Guzmán, both are directors of the program and the Department of Intercultural Studies.
