UNICAUCA commemorates the Afro-Colombian National Day on the 11th of May

As part of the commemoration of 45 years, the School of Human and Social Sciences is offering a lecture on Afro-colombia in the Bank of the Republic.

 

Elizabeth Castillo Guzman, Director of the Center of Ethnic Memories, states that the activity is a part of lectures "Rogelio Velásquez Murillo" on Afro-colombia and it is also organized by the Intercultural Studies Department.

 

"The 175 Law of 2001, states that the 21st of May is a day for celebrating the achievements and cultural identity of Afro-colombian organizations within the framework of a multicultural country to educate society on the value of its traditions and culture as an integral part of the country," she said.

 

In this occasion the Afro-colombian lectures seek to propitiate an academic dialogue that nurtures a plan for the studies and formative practices for children and the young of in Popayan.

 

"The Commemorative Session offers educator from Popayan a space to increase and train in the field of Afro-colombian culture and history as it is applies to colombian pedagogy," she added.

 

On the subject of Rogerio Velazques Murillo, the institution was created in 2014 with the objective to offer an academic space to spread the culture, the arts and history of the Afro-Colombian people and a way on how to contribute to its significance and worth.
