The University of Cauca celebrated its 180th anniversary.
The ceremony began with a tribute to Simon Bolivar and Francisco de Paula Santander in the central courtyard of the cloister of Santo Domingo and to the former rectors at the mausoleum of the university space.
The rector of the institution, Dr. Diego Castrillon Juan Orrego, the representative of the President of the Republic to the High Council, Hugo Muñoz Muñoz and presidents of unions of teachers and workers, Luis Reynel Vasquez and Jose del Carmen Ruiz, chaired the central event.
Subsequently, the major advances of the Organizational Development were presented: Administrative Modernization, Renovation Curricular System Strengthening Research Rethinking Culture and Welfare System, regionalization and internationalization, to the university community and society in general, including the Mayor of Popayan, Francisco Fuentes.
The rector highlighted the underway process for Certification in Quality of all processes and procedures, organization of university spaces, decentralization in the management of the Vice-Rector for Research and Academic Vice Presidency
He also highlighted the increased graduate programs, the University's presence in the Northern region of Cauca and the excellent results in Colciencias’ classification of groups and researchers, among others.
"When we took the responsibility for coordinating the administrative team of our institution in 2012, we did so with the consciousness that he was the head of a university project that had a position at national and global level to be maintained. Also, he wanted to harness the full organizational potential and human talent accumulated in 187 years to meet the new challenges and responsibilities that the XXI century has placed to higher education in academic dimensions, research and social interaction"he said.
Each achievement contributes to Improvement Plan aimed at preserving the High Quality Institutional Accreditation received from the Ministry of Education last year and committed to continuous improvement in academic, administrative, research, culture and welfare aspects, different actions focused on quality.
Finally, the Rector referred to the Strategic Plan for the Bicentenary of the University of Cauca, work that has been carrying a group of teachers in order to plan strategically for the future college.
"The Strategic Plan for the Bicentenary 2027 aims to prepare the University to take for the academic and intellectual challenges that higher education requires the XXI Century, which will have a predominant relation to the challenges being developed at regional and national levels, if the peace process happening now in the city of Havana is successful, "he said.
