Jorge Reynolds, a renowned Colombian researcher visited the University of Cauca.
"We live in a time that is very interesting, we have improved the quality of life such as the communications. We glimpse scenarios such as global warming and overpopulation that require international and collective solutions” said Reynolds.
He also noted the need to be vigilant as students and society to address these changes with agile and intellectual collective proposals and regulation beyond countries.
"The world indicates very clear research paths, where countries such as Colombia with governments who have no interest in science and technology are marginalized, and marginalize their development," he said.
Jorge Reynolds Pombo is a Colombian engineer known worldwide because in 1958 he invented the first external artificial pacemaker with internal electrodes.
He studied at Trinity College, Cambridge where he graduated as an Engineer in Electronics. He has received three honorary doctorates in medicine, for his contributions to research and development of technologies for cardiology.
He is a member of the New York Academy of Sciences, of the Colombian Academy of Exact sciences and Physics and of the National Academy of Medical Sciences since 2004.
The Research Group of the Alma Mater, Regional Competitiveness Models, organized the academic event in the auditorium of the School of Accounting, Economics and Administrative Sciences.
