A research group from Unicauca will present its work internationally.
Carolina Fernández, Environmental Engineering student, presented proposal to link her thesis to the European project Life Reagritech 2011.
The work was showed during the participation of the Research Group GCISA in the VII International Seminar on Environmental Management and II Environmental Science SUE Caribbean her trip to the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
Also, students of X semester of the academic program and Professor Juan Carlos Casas, participated with their research projects at the event held in Santa Marta from 10 to 12 September.
Maira Lisseth Bocanegra, Juan Jose Rivera, Jesús David Hurtado, Claudia Liliana Quiroz, Huber Manuel Pino, Laura Isabel Delgado, Carolina Fernández, Fernanda Yina, Cristian David Muñoz, Lina Vanesa García, José Fernando Alejandro Ordoñez and Diego Flórez, brought seven posters on pollution treatment systems and environmental management.
The Thesis work on wetlands for the treatment of landfill leachate in the Ojito landfill by students of Carolina Jiménez Fernández and Yina Fernanda, was is highlighted. "We worked with other students to raise awareness of these natural systems in the region and to go deeper into this benefit to the environment and communities," said Professor Casas.
Carolina Fernández will do a research stay at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia from 18 September to 15 December 2014, at the premises of the research group of the UNESCO Chair of Sustainability.
"During the stay we will research on constructed wetlands for the removal of organic matter by linking the theory to the European project Life Reagritech 2011, monitoring, testing and evaluating of research and finally publishing the results achieved will be developed" she added.
During the event, Professor Casas also GCISA coordinator, presented a paper on natural treatment systems and the importance of these experiences in the department of Cauca.
"We are working on improving tools for the treatment of water in the region, and using a diagnosis based on information provided by the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Cauca -CRC, we are contributing from the academia and working together to promote such techniques” said the professor.
