Unicauca research groups receive international recognition for their work
FIET Researchers presented eight pHealth jobs in 2014 to 19 countries in Vienna (Austria)
pHealth 2014 – the 11th International Conference on Wearable Micro and Nano Technologies for Personalized Health, was the academic event which met with the representatives of the Alma Mater.
The PhD student in Telematics Engineering, Gustavo Andrés Uribe, won the Best Paper Award of the conference in the category Young Scientists work: Towards Automated Biomedical Ontology Harmonization
The student's text discusses in detail the systems used today to find correspondences between different medical terminologies and ontologies, and proposes to automate this process by allowing the information systems of different health care providers to share information.
The award, which was shared with Joana Silva of the Portugal Fraunhofer Institute AICOS, allowed the participation of three other students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications.
pHealth is one of the most important events in Europe in the area of ICT in mobile and ubiquitous health, and, in this year’s event, included researchers from 19 countries who presented their work in mobile applications, sensors, nanotechnology, medical devices, electronic medical records , security, confidentiality, and social and ethical aspects in the field of health.
"The presentation of papers at the pHealth 2014 is very important for the University of Cauca, for the eight papers presented were selected to be published in the international journal, “Studies in Health Technology and Informatics”, approved in Colciencias in the category A2" said Diego M. López, professor at the FIET.
The achievement is very important for the visibility of the research groups and researchers since the magazine that the published articles appear in is indexed internationally.
The trip was made possible thanks to the Vice-Rector for Research who provided the tickets for four undergraduates and one Master. In addition, the master's and Ph.D. programs in Telematics supported the registration of the event and the teachers’ journeys.
