Canadian University visit Unicauca in order to promote cooperation agreement

Dr. Joss Reimer, an expert in local health policy, and Chelsea Jallow and John Wylie , researchers from the University of Manitoba (Canada), participate in programs of primary health care and visit the Institution to share their experiences.

Edgar Parra Romero, coordinator of Medicine, said that this week they are studying and socializing with the university community an agreement between the two institutions that involves a research in the Comuna 6 in Popayán about psychoactive drugs.

" This is an opportunity not only to work in the field of research but encourages academic possibilities in scenarios such as mobility, continuing education and community outreach", said the professor.

Dr. Joss Reimer said that they we will work on a project to improve the quality of life for young people with drug problems and their impact on Sexually Transmitted Diseases STDs.

"The relationship between the two universities will allow us articulate our experiences to work on a project that emphasizes the prevention of consumption and reduction of damage in people who are already using these drugs", he added.

On the agenda, which began on Monday, May 5th, some academic sessions are scheduled in different areas of the university and regional authorities of the city and ends on Thursday May 8 with the formalization of the agreement.

Dr. Chelsea Jallow was at the University of Cauca on October 2013 presenting her experiences in the field of communication and prevention of STDs and drug use in Nairobi ( Kenya ) , Winnipeg (Canada ) and Medellin.
