Unicauca observes World TB Day.
The academic conferences on the respiratory disease were held in the auditorium of the School of Health.
Dr. Claudia Patricia Narvaez M.D. Epidemiologist from the Tuberculosis Program in Popayan said that the role of the academy is very important because it influences healthcare professionals allowing them to understand the disease.
"The University of Cauca participated in research projects that helped diagnose and track closer to patients with this disease. The result are current national rules governing this type of treatment" said Dr. Narvaez.
She added that the Alma Mater submitted a project that will generate a great benefit related to the management of this condition which is a public health issue to the extent that last year there were 299 cases in the Department and 81 cases were presented in Popayan.
During the academic event participated Velilla Salim Mattar from the University of Cordoba and Alfonso Tenorio Gnecco, Advisor in Tuberculosis for the Andean area of the Pan American Health Organization.
The professionals presented the research results related to the antimicrobial susceptibility and genetic variability Mycobacterium Tuberculosis in a Colombian Caribbean area, as well as the strategies for disease control in large cities.
The General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed March 24 as World TB Day. In 1882, it was announced to the world the discovery of the bacteria responsible for generating the Tuberculosis.
