La Universidad -

The International Seminar on Biodegradable Packaging started today with the presence of researchers from the United States, Brazil, Mexico, France, Italy and Colombia. The event is organized by the University of Cauca through the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences in association with the Regional Center of Innovation and Productivity del Cauca - CREPIC.

The Academic activities will be held today and tomorrow at the Auditorium Francisco Lemos Arboleda, Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering (FIET).

"This is an event that arises from a research proposal funded by Colciencias, which is related to the strengthening or creation of research centers such as the Technological and Innovative Center for Development of Biodegradable Packaging" said Hector Samuel Villada Ph.D., professor at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences.

In this regard, said the professor, it is expected to have this project consolidated in two months, counting on royalty resources through a research project to get it going. He said that it is an articulating center of institutions and research groups from different universities.

The program developed for the International Seminar on Biodegradable Packaging includes research exhibitions, experiences in thermoplastic packaging, as well as the guidelines for the protection of inventions worldwide.

As a prelude to the seminar, several international speakers visited the biodegradable packaging laboratory at the University of Cauca, which is located within the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. The visitors considered this space a breakthrough for the research development on developing packages from cassava starch.  The Research Group on Science and Technology of Agro industrial Bio-molecules (CYTBIA) conducts this initiative.

According to the guests at the seminar, this research along with the development of the Doctorate Program in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Cauca in association with other entities will place the subject of biodegradable packaging nationally and internationally.
