It's a Lifetime! From the Commemoration of March 8 to a Permanent Institutional Commitment

La Universidad -

At the Alma Mater of Cauca, the commemoration of International Working Women's Day, observed every March 8, goes beyond the date to become a permanent institutional commitment to recognizing those who, from various spaces, have built and continue to build the University with the unmistakable mark of #MujerUnicaucana.

For the third consecutive year, under the slogan “It’s not a day, it’s not a month, it’s a lifetime!”, the University of Cauca reaffirms its institutional commitment to becoming an educational center that guarantees equal conditions and opportunities for all. As part of the commemoration of International Working Women’s Day, the University continues its efforts to highlight, through a collective memory exercise, the contributions of Unicaucan women who, with their knowledge and leadership, have paved the way in academia, science, research, administration, social movements, and all the spaces where this house of studies and regional thought has an impact.

Since 2023, with a historical perspective, this campaign acknowledges that the struggle for women's rights has been marked by mobilizations, resistance, and transformations. Although significant progress has been made, challenges remain that demand continuous attention and action. In this sense, the University of Cauca, as a public higher education institution accredited for its high quality and located in a diverse and vast territory like the department of Cauca, recognizes itself as a key space for promoting change and ensuring women's rights, considering the barriers they face in accessing education, decent work, and public life in general. From this perspective, the University promotes various initiatives to facilitate access to higher education and carries out projects, calls, and research aimed at defending women's rights.

However, despite important progress, change must come from within. This awareness and reflection process seeks to strengthen the university community’s commitment to building a more equitable, safe, and inclusive environment.

Thus, in 2025, the campaign continues to position itself with the goal of highlighting the stories of powerful women who, in their daily lives, contribute to building a fairer and more equitable University, allowing us to be who we are. For this reason, the campaign emphasizes the diversity of Unicaucan women in their various roles and paths, as well as the depth of their daily actions in academia and the care of life in all its forms. Their work not only enriches academia but, through their journeys and their ability to dream big, also contributes to the ethical and personal growth of a multicolored community.

In this way, the University of Cauca honors the legacy of each of these women, recognizing their struggles, efforts, and achievements, making it clear that their example inspires new generations of professionals in the region, demonstrating that it is indeed possible to conquer fields that were once denied to them.

For all these reasons and many more, we invite the university community to join this commemoration, which cannot be limited to just a date on the calendar. The goal is to continue building a University that is #HeritageForAll, where all women can fully exercise their rights and contribute in revolutionary ways to social change.

Follow us closely! Through our social media on Facebook and Instagram, you can marvel at each of the protagonists—professors, students, contractors, staff members, and graduates—who make up the beating heart of our institution. Every day throughout March, you will have the chance to connect with a new story of a #MujerUnicaucana.

Because it’s not a day, it’s not a month—it’s a lifetime of struggle, resistance, and transformation!
