Unicauca Student and Minciencias Scholar Stands Out for His Publications on the Internet of Things in Scientific Journals
Andrés Felipe Solís Pino, a Ph.D. student in Electronic Sciences at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications at the University of Cauca, is gaining recognition for his research work.
Publishing an article in a renowned journal is a rigorous research process that demands discipline, dedication, in-depth study, and adherence to strict evaluation standards. Today’s story is not about just one publication—an achievement in itself—but about five high-impact publications in prestigious academic journals. This remarkable work has been accomplished by Andrés Felipe Solís Pino, a mechatronics engineer, graduate of the Comfacauca University Corporation, and current Ph.D. student in Electronic Sciences at the University of Cauca.

Andrés Felipe, a scholar funded by Colombia’s Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (Minciencias), began his Ph.D. in February 2023 under the supervision of Professor César Alberto Collazos Ordóñez (advisor) and Professor Pablo Hernando Ruiz Melenje (co-advisor), both affiliated with the Faculty of Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications at the University of Cauca, as well as Professor Alicia Mon (co-advisor) from the National University of La Matanza, Argentina.
After an extensive review of the selected research literature, the writing process for the five articles began.
The first article, titled “A bibliometric analysis of the landscape of measuring technology maturity in the enterprise Internet of Things,” was published in the International Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, a category B journal according to Publindex, the evaluation system of Colombia’s Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation. The second article, a systematic literature mapping, was titled “Mechanisms for measuring technology maturity on the Internet of Things in enterprises: A systematic literature mapping” and was published in the highly recognized Internet of Things journal. The third article, a systematic literature review, was titled “Systematic literature review on mechanisms to measure the technological maturity of the Internet of Things in enterprises” and was also published in the Internet of Things journal.

The fourth article, titled “Analysis of enterprise Internet of Things maturity models: A review,” was published in Applied Sciences, a Q1-ranked journal.
Through these reviews, Andrés Felipe identified a gap in the existing literature, specifically the lack of specific tools to measure the technological maturity of the Internet of Things (IoT). Existing models did not comprehensively integrate human, technological, and organizational dimensions for assessing IoT maturity.
To address this gap, Andrés Felipe, along with his advisor and co-advisors, developed and published a new maturity model in the Internet of Things journal:
"ATLANTIS: A multidimensional maturity model for evaluating the adoption of the Internet of Things in industrial SMEs."
“Being part of this program is incredibly rewarding as it fosters continuous learning. I encourage all students interested in research to enroll in the Ph.D. program in Electronic Sciences at the University of Cauca, which is one of the best in Colombia. This experience will allow them to work with top-level professors, explore their research interests, and enhance their professional careers,” said Andrés Felipe Solís regarding this exciting and enriching research journey.
The academic achievements led by students and professors are essential in building valuable knowledge, leaving an important legacy for our university and region.
