"We plant for the present, but also for the future!" With this phrase, the Forestry Engineering program welcomed the visit of academic peers as part of its journey toward institutional reaccreditation
Between November 12 and 14, the Forestry Engineering program at the University of Cauca hosted a visit from academic peers representing the National Accreditation Council (CNA). This delegation was tasked with evaluating the quality standards of this Unicaucano program, with the goal of advancing toward its High-Quality Accreditation, a process that fills us with excitement!
The Forestry Engineering program was established on September 10, 1999, through Superior Agreement No. 040, but its activities officially began in January 2003. It received its qualified registration on July 2, 2024, through Resolution 1814 of the Ministry of National Education. Since its foundation, the program has been dedicated to training professionals committed to the sustainable management, responsible use, and integral development of natural and cultivated resources in the forestry sector. Its academic approach also aims to prepare graduates who are capable of transforming lives and making dreams come true in the forestry sector, always aligned with the needs and context of the department, region, and country.
In this regard, Dr. Alexander Buendía, director of the Center for Quality Management and Institutional Accreditation, highlighted the importance of evaluation processes during the peer review visit to the Forestry Engineering program. According to the director, these spaces allow for reflection on the University's progress in its continuous improvement processes, which are crucial not only for the accreditation of specific programs but also for the institutional accreditation of the University, which recently celebrated its 197th anniversary of service to the nation.
"These processes are very interesting because they allow us to see how the University is advancing in its continuous improvement processes; processes that aim not only for program accreditation, like in the case of the Forestry Engineering program, but also for institutional accreditation. Institutional reaccreditation has two extremely important components: the institutional self-evaluation exercise and the number of accredited programs we continue to add," said Buendía.
Additionally, he emphasized that these visits are essential for reflecting on improvement plans, both at the program level and for the University as a whole, reaffirming the institutional commitment to providing high-quality education across all its faculties and programs. "With this, we are gradually taking the necessary steps to improve accreditation rates, both within the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and across the University as a whole," concluded Director Alexander.
At the University of Cauca, we celebrate that, on this journey toward institutional reaccreditation, the Forestry Engineering program has reached such an important milestone. This is what the peer review visit represents: we are planting for the present, but also for the future! We are confident that we will soon reach the final destination: High-Quality Accreditation, an achievement that will not only strengthen this program at our institution but will also significantly contribute to the University's institutional reaccreditation. This reaccreditation is projected for 2027, and we hope it will be the best gift to celebrate our Bicentennial. Therefore, we hope that this visit serves as an incentive for each of the programs on this journey to continue their efforts, moving forward with commitment toward this great goal of High-Quality Accreditation... And you, have you gotten on the bus yet? Remember, it’s all about teamwork.
