Professor Miguel Ángel Niño Zambrano was part of the group of experts in Systems Dynamics, with the presentation 'System Dynamics Model for Analysis of Demand Response on Incorporating Autoswitch in the Colombian Electrical Sector.

From November 6 to 8, Professor Miguel Ángel Niño Zambrano, affiliated with the Department of Systems at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications at the University of Cauca and a member of the Research Group in Information Technologies (GTI), was invited to join a group of experts in Systems Dynamics. They presented their research advancements at the Workshop and International Seminar on Complexity Sciences (WISCS 2024), with the presentation titled "System Dynamics Model for Analysis of Demand Response on Incorporating Autoswitch in the Colombian Electrical Sector."

The presentation is based on the results of a research project developed in collaboration with the company ENEL COLOMBIA S.A. E.S.P., which investigated the possibility of Colombia transitioning to an energy portability market with an automatic electricity provider (marketer) switching policy. These results were published in June of this year in the Energy Policy journal, indexed in JCR, with an Impact Factor for 2023 of 9.3 – Q1 (7/600) ECONOMICS, Q1 (23/171) ENERGY & FUELS.

The event was organized by the Colombia node of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), and this year's seminar was hosted by the Javeriana University of Cali. The event has been held annually since 2019 and is known for directly inviting a select group of researchers recognized for their work, publications, and contributions to Systems Dynamics applied to solving complex societal problems, such as waste management, climate change, mining, energy, recycling, sustainability, circular economy, mobility, agriculture, and CO2 emissions, among many other topics.

Among the main universities represented by the experts who are part of the Colombia node of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics – CoSIAM were: Javeriana University of Cali, Universidad del Rosario, University of Antioquia, University of Valle, Central University, National University of Colombia (Medellín campus), and the Autonomous University of Bucaramanga. The University of Cauca was invited to join the Colombia node to expand the network of experts and foster collaborative research projects among different universities.

Participation in the event also enabled the University of Cauca to become part of a network of experts in Systems Dynamics. It further contributed to enhancing the ongoing work in this research area by faculty and research groups, promoting best practices, collaborations, and synergy to strengthen the discipline through undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as joint projects carried out by various universities across the country.
