Because as a university community we are excited about the processes that are developed and promoted for the well-being of the Unicaucanos, on Friday, November 8, 2024, in Room 105 of the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Aulas Amigables project will be presented. This initiative aims to strengthen educational spaces and raise awareness about environmental care on our university campuses, in accordance with the guidelines from environmental authorities and reaffirming our commitment to taking care of our surroundings.

As our most valuable asset is the people, with the purpose of providing the university community with new educational spaces that will allow for the proper development of academic activities, the University of Cauca is pleased to announce the launch of the Aulas Amigablesproject, an important initiative aimed at constructing five classrooms, a service module, a public space area, and a roof structure in the Faculty of Health Sciences at our Alma Mater.

In this regard, engineer José Luis Garzón, who is responsible for infrastructure projects within our institution, particularly highlights that "The protection of the pressure slope that borders the Molino River, considering the high degree of deterioration in the sector downstream of the project," is also a fundamental part of this institutional effort, which will result in significant benefits.

To carry out this strategic project, it is important to share that those interested should be aware that the felling of some trees is necessary, mostly fruit-bearing trees, which were planted in a previous afforestation process.

In this regard, the University of Cauca has complied with all the established procedures, promptly managing the Forest Utilization Permission for Isolated Trees with the Cauca Regional Autonomous Corporation (CRC). In response to this request, the CRC granted the corresponding permit through Resolution DTC-976-2024, which stipulates as a requirement the reforestation of the area with at least 40 new trees.

But beyond adhering to the regulations and following the guidelines from the environmental authorities, our intention to act within the legal framework also reflects our commitment and responsibility as a regional institution to the preservation of the environment and mitigating the impacts arising from our actions.

For Engineer Jorge Adrián Muñoz Velasco, Vice-Rector for Administration, "This project, aimed at addressing the needs for classroom space and expansion in the Faculty of Health Sciences, is a strategic project. It aligns with the current environmental regulations and strengthens the care of the ecosystem along the Molino Riverbank, as it includes the reforestation of the area as part of its development."

Undoubtedly, this initiative will strengthen the educational conditions at our Alma Mater, while also reaffirming our commitment to contribute to sustainability and the preservation of the natural environment.

Therefore, we invite our university community, the general public, and especially those working in the Faculty of Health Sciences, to participate in the socialization event that will take place this Friday, November 8, starting at 10:00 a.m. in Room 105 of that faculty. This event will provide an opportunity to learn all the details of the Aulas Amigables project, as well as to resolve any questions about it. “Through events like the one tomorrow, we aim to raise awareness about caring for our surroundings and encourage the university community to adopt attitudes of commitment, participation, and support in addressing environmental issues on our campuses and surrounding areas,” stated Alexandra Muñoz, professional at the Center for Quality Management and Institutional Accreditation and member of the Environmental Management Committee of the University of Cauca.

If you're wondering, "Why is the Aulas Amigables project important?", you should know that the construction of these classrooms not only aims to improve spaces for the academic community but also contributes to the environmental wellbeing of the campus.

For this reason, the socialization of this project becomes a key opportunity to encourage active participation from all members of the University, creating an environment of collaboration and environmental awareness. We expect the attendance of all interested parties, who will be able to learn in-depth about the goals and scope of this initiative, fostering the development of a more responsible and respectful culture towards the environment.

Finally, we invite you to stay tuned to our official channels, as through them, we will keep all interested parties informed clearly and directly. Our commitment is to transparency!
