Teamwork: University of Cauca Signs a Letter of Intent to Strengthen the Regional Labor Market Observatory

La Universidad -

On August 28, at the Faculty of Accounting, Economic, and Administrative Sciences of the University of Cauca, an agreement was signed between the University of Cauca, the Chamber of Commerce of Cauca, the Colegio Mayor University Institution, the Mayor's Office of Popayán, the Government of Cauca, and the University Foundation of Popayán. This is a significant alliance that will strengthen the technical unit of the Regional Labor Market Observatory (ORMET) in our beloved department.

The agreement signed on August 28 by the University of Cauca with other notable institutions aims to strengthen this technical unit dedicated to managing information, analysis, monitoring, and forecasting on themes that characterize the regional labor market: “We are very happy because we were able to formalize the Letter of Intent for a duration of four years and present it to all our partners and allies, with whom we aim to work on labor market issues. In addition, we have the support of DANE, SENA, and the Ministry of Labor, which leads the Observatory,” stated Claudia Liceth Fajardo Hoyos, a professor at the University of Cauca and the Regional Director of ORMET.

The professor, who has led this initiative for several years, also explained that the Observatory is a unit composed of public and private institutions, with the University of Cauca coordinating the academic efforts. “We highlight the importance of this agreement, as it will promote aspects such as inter-institutional research for decision-making, projects and trends in the labor market, generating opportunities for various target groups, public-private coordination to discuss employment issues and their solutions, labor monitoring at the regional level, among other social, economic, and productive dynamics of the department,” said Professor Claudia, who is affiliated with the Department of Economic Sciences at the University of Cauca.

It is important to mention that ORMET has been operating in the region for over eight years, with academic coordination handled by the University of Cauca and technical secretariat led by the Chamber of Commerce of Cauca, which actively promotes the processes of this organization in the territory. One of ORMET's main objectives is the continuous analysis of the regional labor market in an inter-institutional space that focuses on building information and conducting useful studies and research to guide and improve the relevance of decisions made by the actors participating in the labor market.

At the University of Cauca, we warmly welcome the opportunity to strengthen and continue participating in significant spaces such as the Regional Labor Market Observatory (ORMET). With this alliance, not only do we promote the analysis and monitoring of labor dynamics, but we also provide essential information to better understand the social and economic realities of our region, enabling us to obtain valuable results that facilitate informed decision-making aimed at generating more job opportunities and improving the quality of life for our communities. Thus, we undoubtedly reaffirm our commitment to the sustainable and equitable development of the region: congratulations to those whose commitment makes this good news possible for our university!
