Unicaucano Medical Student Recognized for Research on Infectious Diseases
The Chief Editor, Professor Atta-ur-Rahman, FRS (University of Cambridge, University of Karachi), invited student David López Valencia to evaluate proposals regarding the utility of a group of compounds for the management of arboviral diseases (virus infections transmitted by arthropods) such as dengue, a serious public health issue both nationally and globally.
For his research career in infectious diseases and contributions to international journals, David López Valencia, a medical student from the University of Cauca, has been appointed as a peer reviewer for the series of books "Studies in Natural Products Chemistry (Bioactive Natural Products)", published by Elsevier Science Publishers – Amsterdam, Netherlands (Scientific Editors of Elsevier – Amsterdam, Netherlands).

David López Valencia is a member of the Center for Microbiology and Parasitology Studies (CEMPA) and the coordinator of the BIOMEDICAL research group, both affiliated with the Department of Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Health Sciences. He has focused his scientific work on neglected tropical diseases (taeniasis/cysticercosis, pediculosis, hemoparasites, dengue) and hematology. The CEMPA research group is led by Professor Luis Reinel Vásquez Arteaga, and the research group includes students from Medicine, Nursing, and Biology.
The goal of Studies in Natural Products Chemistry | Elsevier is to publish advancements in the study of the biological activity of natural products with pharmacological potential and their application in the pharmaceutical industry. This includes isolation, structural determination, synthesis, and biosynthesis of these molecules.
