La Universidad -

Professor José Rafael Rosero Morales, Head of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Cauca, was part of the academic sessions held from April 25 to 27 in Santiago, Chile.

“The Congress was a space that brought together distinguished philosophers, theologians, and academics from Africa, India, Europe, Asia, and the Americas. It was a space of convergent diversity that provided the opportunity to dialogue, share knowledge, and experiences on the central theme of the call from an intercultural philosophical perspective,” said Professor José Rafael Rosero Morales about his participation in the XV International Congress of Intercultural Philosophy, which took place on April 25, 26, and 27, 2024, in Santiago, Chile.

The professor and Head of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Cauca participated as a speaker on the closing podium during this significant event organized by the International School of Intercultural Philosophy (EIFI), Federico Santa María Technical University, Santiago de Chile University, University of Temuco, and the Catholic University of the North. The central theme for this XV edition was: Cultures, World, Civilization: Between Colonization and Liberation.

According to the Congress call, one of the central conflicts affecting human coexistence today is the conflict between peoples and cultures fighting for the respect of their territories as meaningful orders and the expansion of a capitalist and mechanistic civilization that threatens to destroy and replace the many human places of the world with “spaces” for its products and lifestyles. This very conflict was the focus of the XV International Congress of Intercultural Philosophy, which aimed to analyze its causes and present perspectives that could guide coexistence between peoples towards pathways of solidarity and participation in “a world where everyone can fit.”

“Participation in the Congress is part of one of the disciplinary development axes cultivated by the Department of Philosophy, whose positioning in the last five years has become increasingly visible and solid. We refer to the lines: Intercultural Philosophy and Philosophy and Teaching of Philosophy. These lines are also integrated into the undergraduate and graduate programs offered by the academic unit, as they contribute to strengthening research dynamics with students and professors, deepening philosophical developments from an intercultural perspective with a pedagogical and curricular focus, and stimulating the production of knowledge from an interdisciplinary approach to enhance philosophical practice,” concluded Professor José Rafael Rosero Morales, who is part of the International School of Intercultural Philosophy (EIFI) and director of the Philosophy and Teaching of Philosophy Research Group at the University of Cauca.
