Interinstitutional Alliance for Food Governance in Cauca
The event 'How to Build a Regional and Local Food Strategy,' organized by the Regional Food Governance Alliance, provided an opportunity to review strategies for aligning national and global initiatives.
In this third discussion, the Regional Food Governance Alliance brought together stakeholders from academia, government, social sector, and business within the food ecosystem, spanning local, regional, national, and global levels. The aim was to reflect on and propose actions to address the food crisis in the region, which is also a global issue where the Cauca department could play a crucial role due to its potential in this area.
Thus, the event titled 'How to Build a Regional and Local Food Strategy' was proposed, which took place on Thursday, April 18, in the main auditorium 401 of the Faculty of Accounting, Economic, and Administrative Sciences. Organized by the Regional Food Governance Alliance, it became the meeting point to promote dialogue among stakeholders from the food ecosystem, spanning local, regional, national, and global levels, on Food Governance.
In the space organized by the University of Cauca, participants included the Ministry of Agriculture, the Government of Cauca, the Chamber of Commerce of Cauca, the Gremial Council of Cauca, the Regional Indigenous Council of Cauca (CRIC), and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). They presented the country's perspectives on this topic, as well as reflecting, sharing, and considering Food Governance in Cauca.

The director of the Center for Studies and Services at the University of Cauca, Héctor Alejandro Sánchez, stated that the Alliance emerged from the need to articulate actors, facilitate dialogue, reach consensus, and consolidate ideas into actions. 'This is a food-producing region, so we believe it is possible, from there, to build a regional project that could lead to a Public Policy for Ecosystem Governance that enhances those production possibilities,' he said."

The Regional Food Governance Alliance is a collaborative inter-institutional strategy, operating as a "thinking tank", initiated by the University of Cauca. It was created with the purpose of building a network of actors composed of the State, Academia, and the Social and Business Sectors in the southwestern region of the country, to generate reflection and relevant proposals concerning a sustainable food ecosystem.
