University of Cauca students continue to be role models: for the third consecutive year, they are finalists in the Huawei ICT Competition!

La Universidad -

The talented students David Pismag, Mauricio Peña, and Diego Pantoja, from the Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications program at the University of Cauca, have reached the exciting final stage of the Huawei ICT Competition in China. This achievement is thanks to their outstanding performance after succeeding in the previous (national and regional) phases of the competition, bringing our Alma Mater to the finals for the third consecutive year on this global stage.

Future engineers David Pismag, Mauricio Peña, and Diego Pantoja, students in their tenth semester of the Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications program, are preparing to compete in the grand final of the Huawei ICT Competition in China, after successfully passing the national and regional stages. The ICT Competition 2023-2024 consists of several areas of competition, including Network, Cloud, Computer, and Innovation. Initially, after passing an online exam, six students from the University of Cauca were selected to represent the institution: 3 students in Network and 3 in Cloud. These talented students competed in the national stage, which was also online and consisted of a test with various questions. Both teams advanced to the regional stage, held in Bogotá, where they faced a 60-minute exam followed by a 3-hour practical test; both processes were conducted online from Huawei's facilities. Finally, the Network team qualified for the final stage in China, where they will face a 10-hour practical test.

"Reaching the Huawei ICT Competition has been an incredible experience. As a team, we feel very happy and proud of our progress, as it has not been easy. It has required a lot of study, dedication, and effort on our part," said student Mauricio Peña. He also added that one of the most important motivations for participating in this competition was the example set by their peers, who made it to the finals in the previous edition. He also highlighted the crucial role of Professor Catalina Muñoz, who has supported them throughout the process, motivating them and providing everything necessary for their good performance.

Professor Catalina Muñoz participated in the 'Most Valuable Instructor' contest, where she shared her experience with the Huawei Academy through a 15-minute presentation in English before a jury in China. This participation led her to advance to the regional stage and now she will compete in the final in China, along with her students. "I am very proud of our FIET students, as everything we have taught them has helped them perform very well in this competition. I am very happy to be part of these processes that change their lives and strengthen their educational journey. I am thrilled that this is the third year we have competed in the finals; the first year was virtual due to the closure in China, last year we went with two teams, and this year we are going with one team," Professor Catalina said with excitement.

Without a doubt, the University of Cauca takes immense pride in having, for the third consecutive year, a group of brilliant students—promises of the technological field—in the final of the Huawei ICT Competition. These young individuals are not only representing our institution exceptionally but are also elevating the name of the Cauca department and drawing attention to this special corner of southern Colombia. Their outstanding participation is a testament to the academic excellence that characterizes our institution. We wish them all the success in this exciting final stage!
