Research Students from Unicauca Stand Out at the V Colombian Congress of Mastozoology.
The Research Group in Geology, Ecology, and Conservation ASIO and the Zoology and Conservation Studies Group participated with two presentations and three posters at this event, which promotes actions for generating and disseminating knowledge about mammals in Colombia and the Americas.
During the V Colombian Congress of Mastozoology, held from March 12 to 16 in Yopal, Casanare, students from the University of Cauca and members of the Research Group in Geology, Ecology, and Conservation ASIO and the Zoology and Conservation Studies Group, along with Professor Charles Muñoz Nates from the Department of Biology, participated with three posters and two presentations on mammal diversity in the department of Cauca.
Additionally, students Manuela Alzate and Yesyca López were appointed as representatives of the Cauca node within the Colombian Network of Mastozoology Students - RECMas.
The students presented two oral presentations:
“Records of Conflicts and Distribution of the Puma (Puma concolor Linnaeus, 1771) in the Department of Cauca” by Paula Andrea Burbano Benavides and Mayra Alejandra Cuasmayan Suárez.
“Distribution of the Family Molossidae (Chiroptera) in the Department of Cauca'”by Yesyca Andrea López Bolaños, Lina María Velázquez Caviche, César Camilo Castillo Bravo, and Jhonier Favián Apraez Bravo."
They also displayed the following posters:
“An Approach to the Knowledge of Medium and Large Mammals of the Puracé National Natural Park and Surrounding Areas, Colombia”by Manuela Alzate Lozada.
“Histiotus (Vespertilionidae) and Neoeptesicus (Vespertilionidae) from the Department of Cauca”by Wilmar Guzmán Zapata and Manuela Alzate Lozada.
“The Genera Lasiurus, Myotis, and Rhogeessa of the Vespertilionidae Family for the Department of Cauca: An Approach to Distribution” by Andrés Felipe Ojeda Trochez and Yesyca Andrea López.
The V Colombian Congress of Mastozoology 'Building Knowledge about Our Mammals Participatively,' organized by the Colombian Society of Mastozoology (SCMas) in collaboration with the Cunaguaro Foundation, the International University of the Tropical Americas - Unitrópico, and the La Palmita Natural Reserve Foundation - Research Center, aims to promote and stimulate actions for the generation and dissemination of knowledge about mammal fauna in Colombia and the Americas.
