Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences held the 9th Afro-Colombian Lecture Series Rogelio Velasquez Murillo.

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Cauca, the Department of Intercultural Studies, the Degree in Ethnoeducation, and the Center for Ethnic Memories held the 9th Afro-Colombian Lecture Series Rogelio Velásquez Murillo on August 25th at the Francisco José de Caldas Auditorium.

This 9th edition of the Lecture Series focused primarily on Law 70 or the Law of Black Communities of 1993, addressing its educational and cultural context with the aim of assessing the situation in the Southwestern region of Colombia after 30 years of its existence. The event was divided into four panels: 1. Assessment of the Implementation of Law 70 in Educational and Cultural Matters. 2. Regional Assessment in the Implementation of Ethnoeducational Policy. 3. Assessment of Ethnoeducational Actions and CEA at the Universities of Cauca and 4. Panel on Ethnoeducational and Territorial Processes in Cauca.

The panels featured the participation of leaders and educators who have been involved in implementing this law in various institutions in the region and at the University of Cauca.

During the first panel, Dr. Daniel Garces Aragon, former Coordinator of the National Pedagogical Commission, shared insights into the social struggles preceding the construction of Law 70 and its compliance. In the second panel, educators Elcina Valencia, coordinator of Ethnoeducation in Buenaventura, Selli Carabalí Lucumí, an Ethnoeducational teacher from Villapaz, Jamundi, and Luis Fernel Bonilla, a teacher from Santander de Quilichao, presented their experiences in implementing the law and its Ethnoeducational policy from a territorial perspective.

The third panel focused on sharing the processes and actions carried out in universities for the development of an Ethnoeducational policy. Participants included José Antonio Caicedo Ortiz from the Rogelio Velásquez Murillo Lecture Series at the University of Cauca, Constanza Bonilla from the Autonomous University, and Elizabeth Castillo from the University of Cauca.

Finally, the event concluded with Gerardo Bazán from the Asoguapi Association discussing the Ethnoeducational process in Guapi, Cauca, and a cultural performance of "Poetic Marimba" led by teacher Maria Elena Anchico.
