The Musical Apprentices Program featured the participation of Professor Magliony Marquez, who held a concert and masterclass for students in Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro.

Professor Magliony Marquez, affiliated with the Department of Music at the University of Cauca, performed a concert and masterclass on July 21st for the members of the Musical Apprentices Program, one of the major social development programs through art active in Brazil. The event where he engaged with the students took place in the city of Niteroi, in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

"I realized how fantastic this Program is through the smiles, the students' faces, the joyful and relaxed atmosphere, and the reception I received. As a university professor, I have daily contact with students. And this opportunity to be here, imparting my knowledge, was very valuable, and I'm very happy about it," expressed the faculty member from the Cauca Alma Mater to the newspaper O Dia.

During the concert, pieces for solo piccolo clarinet (a highly complex instrument) were performed, mainly focusing on works from Colombian folklore, which are the focus of his interpretative musical research. Likewise, some compositions included the series of homages by the Hungarian clarinetist Bela Kovacs, as well as arrangements by the German Johann Sebastian Bach and the Spanish composer Manuel de Falla.

Following the concert, during the masterclass, methodological and pedagogical experiences developed in the clarinet class at the University of Cauca, where he has been a member since 2015, were shared.

The faculty member from the Arts Faculty has been researching the interpretation of the piccolo clarinet as the main instrument for twelve years. This research has received international recognition, providing the opportunity to represent Colombia at related events in countries such as Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, and Brazil.

The Apprentice is an initiative led by the Secretariat of Strategic Actions and Creative Economy of Niteroi with the support of the Education Secretariat. Considered one of the major social development programs through art in the country with 22 years of experience, it was restructured to better serve students and teachers. Currently, 2,100 children have free classes in musical initiation, practice with string, wind, and percussion instruments, as well as singing and choir.
