The University Choir of Unicauca, a social outreach option to share music with the community
Under the direction of maestro Fabio A. Delgado Morales, this collective from the Faculty of Arts and the Department of Music, comprised of students in Music Education, Instrumental Music, and Band Direction, aims to reach everyone through educational concerts.
The Hogar Divino Niño provided the perfect setting where the University Choir, under the direction of maestro Fabio A. Delgado Morales, presented their proposal of voices and melodies brimming with joy, peace, and love to the institution's elderly. The event, which took place on Friday, June 30, 2023, is part of the social outreach of the University of Cauca, particularly from the Faculty of Arts, and specifically, the Department of Music.
"We work to reach different venues in the city, the department, and the country, with the aim of sharing the music we create with the community, but above all, with the spirit of bringing joy and exchanging knowledge and experiences," stated maestro Fabio A. Delgado Morales.
The University Choir is composed of students from the three programs of the Department of Music: Music Education, Instrumental Music, and Band Direction, who take the Choir subject or when it's offered as an elective. "We reach various venues, not just auditoriums, but also aim to reach other places such as churches. Last year, we visited the San Vicente de Paul home where we also shared moments with the elderly. A year ago, we did a flash mob in Caldas Park and in the Campanario shopping center. We strive to be accessible to all people through educational concerts where we can share and learn with the public," he added.
They plan to organize an event called 'Ironing Concert,' which includes music from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Additionally, in December, at the end of the semester, they are scheduled to hold Christmas concerts in various projects, joining forces with the Symphony Orchestra of the Faculty of Arts.
Furthermore, the collective has participated in spaces such as the Second Choral Residency held at the Guillermo Valencia Theater, in 'Patía Sinfónico,' in the 'Sinfonic Voice' concerts held in Cali and Santander de Quilichao, and in Purcell's 'Dido and Aeneas' opera, which was a project of the Faculty of Arts involving its academic programs.
"We will continue to create and participate in the cultural agenda of our Faculty of Arts at the University of Cauca, scheduled for each semester, in specific choir projects or in projects that bring together the different department ensembles," concluded the professor.
