Gold, silver and bronze won athletes from Unicauca in ASCUN National Games

With two gold medals in judo, six silver medals and four bronze medals, the Universidad del Cauca was very well represented at the XXIX ASCUN National University Games.

 

 

In the university jousts carried out by the Colombian Association of Universities, ASCUN, between September 26 and October 8, 2022, for the interaction and well-being of athletes from the different public and private universities in Colombia, the University del Cauca obtained a total of 12 medals.

 

“These events are very important because they unite and reactivate university sports, strengthen coexistence and contribute to the formation of the educational community, facilitating the conditions for integration, sociocultural development and healthy competition through sports and recreation”, stated Gustavo Ordoñez, a professional from the Sports and Recreation Management Division of the Alma Máter in Cauca.

 

 

He also indicated that the two gold medals in judo were won by Civil Engineering students, Diana Carolina Palacio Tobar and Carlos Andrés Bonilla Góngora, and a total of three bronze medals in snatch, clean and jerk, and total, in the 46 kg category. , reached Laura Viviana Anaconda Fajardo, from Economy.

 

For his part, Juan David Calderón Muñoz, student of the Master's in Administrative Law, achieved three silver medals in snatch, clean and jerk and total weights, category less than 89 kg.

 

 

The Industrial Automation Engineering student, Diego Alexander Bolaños Muñoz, won three silver medals in snatch, clean and jerk and total weightlifting, category over 109 kg. Likewise, the athlete Kimberly Johana Montero Rodríguez, from the Tourism program, in the Karate Do discipline, advanced individual kata modality, obtained a bronze medal. The soccer team of the Universidad del Cauca ranked fourth.

 

 

Regarding his outstanding participation in this sporting event, Carlos Andrés Bonilla Góngora, a student in his last semester of Civil Engineering and medalist in the recent national university games held in Cali, who brought a gold medal in judo to the Alma Mater, thanked his family and to the coaches because they have been great shapers of their performance at an academic, sports and personal level, "since I have been practicing judo for more than 15 years, a discipline that has given me many joys, triumphs and defeats, but above all learning and great friendships”, said the athlete.
