It's not a day, it's a lifetime: women who do university

March 8, International Women's Day, from the University of Cauca we commemorate each and every one of the women who have done and continue to do University

Today, in which as a society we commemorate International Women's Day, from the University of Cauca we are aware that a single day or a month is not enough to dress in purple and recognize the work of Unicaucana women, that throughout history have paved the way so that today, the women of Cauca and nearby departments can access a quality education, study the career that they like the most, carry out research and occupy places of power that before They were exclusive to men.

This is how, with the support of Universitariamente Feministas, during the month of March we will be highlighting the feminine power that has made and will continue to make the university, through the campaign "It is not a day, it is not a month, it is a lifetime" , which arises as a result of the recovery of the collective memory, going to sources that keep in their memories the impact of the work of different women and their contribution to building a university with a gender perspective. Thus, alluding to the recovery of historical memory, we recall the reason for the choice of colors in the campaign, using mainly violet, a color that represents the fight for women's rights, because according to historians on 25 On March 1911, in New York City, around 140 women die in a fire at a textile factory, presumably started by one of the businessmen in response to the protests of the workers against the difficult working conditions.

In this way, "It's a lifetime" is a symbolic campaign that seeks to recognize that a single day is not enough to commemorate the daily work of women, since each of the tasks they perform is transversal to all areas. of the university, and although 31 women stand out within the campaign, we are aware that there are many more, today we extend the recognition to the 788 women who constitute the alma mater among civil servants, administrative support, surveillance, general services, the teaching, research, unionism and the different roles that make our university possible.

We also highlight the role of students and graduates in active participation in the defense of Women's Rights in the different spaces in which they operate, leaving the name of the University of Cauca high.

Finally, commemorating International Women's Day and recognizing that the university is sensitive to social transformations, Unicauca invites you to contribute to these processes of recognition of the other, respect, and historical and collective memory.
