Unicauca Virtual Legal Clinic is receiving requests from the vulnerable population

Between February 15 and May 21, 2021, the Legal Office is attending requests virtually in Popayán and Santander de Quilichao.

 

Since the beginning of the health emergency generated in 2020 by the Coronavirus Covid 19, the University of Cauca implemented a virtual space to meet the legal needs of users, despite not having presence. For this, queries raised by people especially from levels 1 and 2 are processed, related to matters that by law are the competence of these citizen service centers.

 

According to the official Ximena Cerón, the Legal Clinic of the University of Cauca is a center for social interaction that attends to the legal needs of the population of vulnerable strata, generating the approach of justice to the community and fostering academic practice with the social projection of the Alma Mater.

 

In this unit of the University, counseling is offered on labor, economic, criminal, civil and family matters to people who cannot pay for the services of a lawyer, which shows that the project "Virtual Legal Clinic" has been well received by community.

 

The Legal Clinic has two offices: one in Popayán and the other in Santander de Quilichao, where the Alma Mater Law program operates. To provide this Virtual Consultation service, a link was established on the University website, called "Virtual Legal Consultation", to make inquiries through a form provided for this purpose.

 

Once the issues are received, they are sent to the teachers for their due approval and acceptance according to the area; Subsequently, with the feasibility of the teacher, the students who attend by telephone to the users are assigned to process the respective matter; Students and teachers study the cases that are presented and prepare a document, concept or strategy in the light of substantial and procedural law that must receive the approval of the advisor before being presented or delivered to the user.

 

 

This program offers advice on civil, family and commercial law, on disputes in horizontal property, food quotas, inconveniences with telecommunications operators, in the labor area, settlements; in the administrative field, it attends to petition rights and guardianships; in criminal matters, in food absence, theft, injury, slander, among other aspects.

 

It also attends to the legal requests of the victims of the armed conflict through the virtual medium, once the completed form is received, a student communicates with the user to attend to the matters received on the established dates and according to the powers that by law handle the Legal Offices.

 

  "Through the various communication media in Popayán and Santander de Quilichao, we invite the community to access this service," said Ximena Cerón, an official at the law center at the University of Cauca.
