Research Group strengthens its infrastructure
The Research Group in Catalysis of the Department of Chemistry of the University of Cauca strengthens its infrastructure to continue its scientific work, thanks to incentives from the Office of the Vice President for Research within the framework of the excellent results obtained in the National Call for Recognition and Measurement of Research Groups.
After achieving the classification in the 833 call of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of 2018 and thanks to the incentives granted by the research system of the University of Cauca, the Catalysis Research Group of the Chemistry department now has new equipment that strengthen their work.
Alfonso Enrique Ramírez Sanabria, director of the Catalysis Research Group, indicated that “a double rotor centrifuge and an analytical balance were acquired. At this moment we are preparing a carbonaceous material and to obtain this there are different purification stages, one of these stages requires the separation of liquids and solids, with the centrifuge we achieve that this material remains at the bottom which does that we can extract it easier and the latest equipment allows us to know the mass of materials in a very precise way”.
The incentives offered to this research community could be used for air tickets, travel expenses, registration for events, purchase of equipment, publications and artistic creations. In this sense, the teacher thanked and highlighted the strategy proposed by the Vice-rectory as it allows more efficient results. "This way of encouraging scientific production makes us see the efforts we have made in a more tangible way and will lead to better findings."
Through the aforementioned call, 84 research groups were categorized and 166 researchers from the different faculties achieved escalation. Currently, the Vice-rector for research at the University of Cauca established strategies "Virtual Marathon for CvLACs and GrupLACS update", where they provide support to the directors and researchers of the groups to meet this key requirement to achieve classification in the next call for applications, classification and measurement of the Ministry.
