La Universidad -

Managing resources jointly between the Mayor's Office of Popayán, the Government of Cauca, the Ministry of National Education and the University of Cauca to guarantee Zero Enrollment to students of all socioeconomic strata was the main conclusion of the meeting of rapprochement with the student spokespersons.

The management of a project that will be submitted to the General Royalties System to access resources that allow guaranteeing Zero Enrollment to all students of the undergraduate programs of the University of Cauca, is the main agreement reached at the table of approach with student spokesmen and departmental, municipal and university administrations, as well as the Ministry of National Education.

As indicated by the rector of the University of Cauca, José Luis Diago Franco, in the commitment to Territorial Peace, we have been working on a fruitful dialogue with the different administrations and university levels, seeking to guarantee this benefit.

"For a long month, we have been working with the Government of Cauca to obtain the necessary resources destined to finance all the complementary rights for this semester, and also complete those that are needed in the basic enrollment rights. For the second semester we aspire that with royalty resources, the entire financial registration fee can be covered,”he explained.

The Rector added that it is an ambitious project in which, with the support of the Governor and the Mayor, it will be able to fulfill it benefiting the university community, especially more than 17,000 students. "It is a sign that when there is dialogue, important agreements are reached, and we hope to deliver important news in three months," he emphasized.

On his side, the Mayor of Popayán, Juan Carlos López Castrillón expressed his satisfaction with the results achieved in the call he made to seek joint solutions. "I am pleased that the meeting with the Ministry of National Education, the Government of Cauca, the University of Cauca and the student spokesmen has been fruitful, seeking to guarantee the rights to social protest, Human Rights and access to higher education."

He also indicated that he regrets the events that occurred on February 15, which is why the situations and behaviors presented will be reviewed internally, and that a talk will be held with the Metropolitan Police in this regard.

“We are going to work so that this year the University of Cauca has Zero Enrollment, benefiting all students. We regret that some people were injured on Monday; we hope that these events will not happen again, we must work for coexistence, so that social protest can be peaceful and in that we will keep the channels open, "said the mayor.

Finally, student spokesperson Nathaly Zúñiga said that it was an important meeting in which progress was made in the goal of achieving Zero Enrollment. “For us it is important to achieve dialogue and participation in an inter-institutional table to defend our Alma Mater, we are committed to a sense of belonging to the university and for that purpose we will remain in the fight, in order to reach agreements that we benefit everyone, as in this case, "she said.
