Unicauca Health Unit, prepared to start vaccination against Covid 19
The University of Cauca announced in detail the work carried out with the phases, stages and prioritization of risk groups that its Health Unit will attend in developing the National Vaccination Plan, to face the health emergency due to Covid-19.
The scientific deputy director of the Health Unit of the University of Cauca, Rudver Hermosa, on the microphones of the news program "Unicauca al Día Radio", released Communication 001 on the Vaccination Plan against Covid-19; The document specifies the technical and operational guidelines emanating from the National Government through the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, to attend to public health that includes teachers, pensioners and administrative personnel of the Alma Mater and its family nucleus.
In this sense, the National Government issued Decree 109 of January 29, 2021, in order to develop the National Vaccination Plan in the context of the pandemic generated by COVID-19 and according to the constitutional principle of effectiveness, it seeks to guarantee a better use of technologies in order to protect public welfare and the fundamental right to health in its individual and collective dimension.
On November 9, 2020, United Nations Human Rights experts issued a statement highlighting the essential value of access to free vaccines for the prevention and containment of COVID-19 at the global level, given that States have the Obligation to ensure that all vaccines and treatments against Covid-19 are safe, available and accessible to all those who need it; consequently, access to technologies must be provided for all persons without discrimination and prioritizing those who are most vulnerable to the disease.
Since at the moment available vaccines are scarce and require detailed logistical planning for their application, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection divided the population into two phases, five stages and seven basic principles: beneficence, solidarity, equity and justice, transparency, progressiveness, and general interest, seeking to strictly prioritize the most vulnerable population groups in accordance with available epidemiological and public health data.
For this reason, in its first phase it is intended to reduce mortality and the incidence of serious cases due to this virus and protect health workers, while in the second phase it seeks to reduce contagion to generate herd immunity. Likewise, in the National Vaccination Plan decreed by the National Government, the State must resort to prioritization criteria based on public health reasons, which is why health workers and people with a higher risk of developing serious affectations were included to their health, product of the contagion of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, either due to their age or pre-existing conditions, finally expressed the scientific deputy director of the Health Unit of the University of Cauca.
