Civil Engineering graduates deliver a house to a family affected by fire
A family of nine people who were affected by a fire in 2018, losing their home and belongings, was benefited and today they enjoy their new home thanks to the contribution and support provided by a group of graduates of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Universidad del Cauca in conjunction with Entrepreneurs of the City.
In the Los Lagos neighborhood, west of the city of Popayán, a two-story, 140-square-meter house was handed over to a family of nine people, who were damaged by a fire that destroyed their belongings in 2018.
Upon learning about the unfortunate reality of this family, which happened to live in a construction made of plastic, wood and zinc, a group of graduates of the Civil Engineering program of the University of Cauca present in different parts of the world, undertook the task of contributing to restore this home.
“When the vulnerability of this family was detected, the Civil Engineer José Muñoz started from London with this cause, motivating his colleagues, managing to deliver a house with decent conditions, without expecting anything in return, united and with the effort of all ”, Indicated Professor Carlos Ariel Hurtado, professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
He added that not only was the contribution of the city's graduates and businessmen, it also had labor and construction management, without any remuneration in the reconstruction of this house that today is the home of the Narváez family.
“It is an enormous joy that accompanies us. I first thank God and each one of the people who have contributed a 'golden grain'. I already thought that at my age and with the tragedy we had, we were not going to have a house like the one we now have, with nothing in return, only with the kindness and generosity of those who contributed,”said José Narváez Fernández.
For her part, Mrs. Rosaida Gil Aguilar, indicated that this is a dream come true for the family. "I believed that we had to spend many years in a plank and zinc house and thank God and all those who contributed, today the reality is different," she said.
It should be noted that it is the second time that the group of Civil Engineering graduates have led this generous initiative, handing over a home to a family that is in lamentable conditions. The first house was built in 2019 on a sidewalk near the city of Popayán.
