Music student participated in the Portillo International Music Academy Festival, Chile
Gabriel Ordóñez, student of the Music program at the Faculty of Arts, represented the University of Cauca with excellent results in the "Festival Academia Internacional de Música Portillo" (Chile), in its version 2021, which took place between 20 and January 24.
With the fourth movement of the concert in E minor Op. 85 by Edward Elgar, the student of the Music program of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Cauca achieved excellent results and favorable comments at the "Festival Academia Internacional de Música Portillo" held from January 20 to 24, 2021 virtually in Chile.
"It was a long process of preparation, presentations and rehearsals for three years, given the high level that is handled at the festival, in the end I achieved the classification and was able to perform with excellent results," said Gabriel Ordóñez.
In preparing it, he had the support of Maestro Diego Hernández, a professor at the Faculty of Arts, who guided him to achieve the classification with praise from the juries. To achieve this goal, Gabriel auditioned the Second Movement of the Concerto No. 1 in C major by Joseph Haydn and Concerto in E minor Op. 85 by Edward Elgar.
"This participation means a lot because you see the fruits of an individual, collective and formative effort, and it forces me to prepare more and more."
During the Festival, Gabriel had the opportunity to interact with 35 musicians from different countries around the world, as well as a select group of jurors, Masters from the United States, China, Chile, Germany and Poland, from whom he learned a lot.
For the professor of cello and chamber music at the Faculty of Arts, Diego Hernández, this participation becomes an important triumph in the training of Gabriel Ordóñez, since it is a space for growth and international exchange.
"I reiterate the importance of this participation for the University of Cauca, given that our young people interact in international settings, carrying the flags of the institution with excellent representation and results," said the teacher.
