We have made history and history is part of the university: President of Unicauca José Luis Diago Franco.

With a minute of silence paying tribute to each of the victims left by the conflict in Cauca and in the country, the President of Cauca’s University, Doctor José Luis Diago Franco, began his words during the celebration of the 192 years of the Alma Mater, thereby demonstrating the institutional commitment towards Territorial Peace.

 

“We are a university committed to Territorial Peace, and we are committed to the peace process and to building a better society with the principles of tolerance, respect for dissent, in the protection of life and human dignity, which It is also part of our institutional principles.”

 

He stressed that in the celebration of the 192 years of the University of Cauca, the work and contributions that members of the university community and society in general make in favor of territorial peace are recognized.

 

First, he highlighted the work of a great promoter of institutional peace. “An unrepeatable leader who, with his silent example and dedication,  gave a human face and led us to a successful process of the renewal for the Institutional Accreditation and the certification of quality standards. Thank you Master Teacher, Eminent Professor and, Doctor Miguel Hugo Corchuelo Mora.”

 

This is how the President of the University informed, the delivery of the University of Cauca’s Medal in the category of Eminent Professor to Dr. Miguel Hugo Corchuelo Mora, professor of the Faculty of Natural, Exact and Educational Sciences and current Director of the Center for Quality Management and Institutional Accreditation.

 

Similarly, the University of Cauca delivered at the 192-year ceremony, the university recognition to the Archbishop of Popayán, Monsignor Luis José Rueda Aparicio, who has been contributing to peace in the department, highlighting that he is “A spiritual leader who has mediated in the face of social conflicts in the region, and has made significant statements in defense of life, democracy and peace.”

 

Likewise, he referred to the university recognition that was given to the graduate of the University of Cauca and current Governor of Cauca, Engineer Oscar Rodrigo Campo Hurtado, for his valuable support for institutional strengthening, especially thanking his vital contribution in the context for the compliance with local agreements during the mobilization for public higher education, which was presented the previous year, facilitating access to royalty resources, exceeding what was agreed, in addition to being a convinced promoter of our university project.

 

When mentioning the national agreements, it is necessary as President of Cauca’s University, to certify that we have received all the resources agreed for the year 2019 and that their destinations have responded to the local specifications.

 

“It would not be of gentlemen to stop exalting the maturity and the excellent work of the triestamentary table in the management of additional resources and that today are part of the budget base, achieving the following historical milestones: the reclassification of the administrative plant, the regularization of the undergraduate programs in Santander de Quilichao and Popayán created through the figure of regionalization, the strengthening of the “PermaneSer” program, and the extension in the addition of temporary teachers.

 

Finally he exalted the nascent force of university defenders of Human Rights who are today a national example. He also thanked the presentation of the teachers of the Department of Music, Janeth López, Dimitri Petoukov and Adriana Valera, who interpreted Bach's work that describes the death and crucifixion of Jesus Christ according to the Gospel of San Mateo, describing a metaphor for the suffering of the Latin American people.
