The University of Cauca, through the Office of the Vice President for Culture and Welfare, is carrying out a series of actions aimed at providing support to the members of the university community who, due to the quarantine, have had to remain in the city of Popayán.
“From the Unicauca Solidaria campaign we have now built a new database that allows us to provide second support to our students and to the university community that is experiencing difficulties. We will be delivering this new support this May,” said Deibar René Hurtado Herrera, vice-rector for Culture and Well-being of the Alma Mater of the Caucans.
The Office of the Vice President for Research and the Office of the Vice President for Culture and Welfare have joined forces to carry out a new campaign in which the university community is invited to sponsor a student. "It is an act of solidarity with girls and boys who are currently experiencing difficulties, given that they or their parents sustain themselves with the work they carry out day by day and given this difficulty, they have no resources to sustain themselves," adds the Vice-Chancellor of Culture and Well-being.
Likewise, with the coordination and support of Mayors and Governors, since April 28, students from the University of Cauca who remained in Popayán have returned to their homes, a campaign that will continue to develop in the following days. "In coordination with the Governors of Cauca, Nariño and Caquetá, we are going to ensure that 80 students can return to their homes and we have other students for whom we will continue working."
These actions are supported by the virtual PermaneSer program through which consultancies were provided so that the students could successfully complete the second period of 2019. “So that they could present their final exams, their qualifications, their substitutes and the work has continued. At the moment we have eight programs that have started introducing university life through which training is being given that allows them to face this new stage of their lives, ”adds the University Director.
With the support of the different divisions of the Vice-Rectory for Culture and Welfare, support is given to the Institutions of Middle Education with campaigns for the prevention of suicide and the consumption of psychoactive substances, art workshops, dance, among others. “The support from the Vice-rectory continues to all the agreements that the University has and that benefit students. Renewals of ICETEX credits are being made, reports are being made on the Youth in Action, Generation E program and that work is maintained actively and permanently, "he emphasized.
Finally, on May 15, the Vice-Rectory for Culture and Welfare will pay tribute to the teaching secretaries and mothers who are part of the university community. "The University is a patrimony of all and solidarity, service and accompaniment assist us in these moments of pandemic, so our responsibility is that all these activities add to territorial peace as a commitment of all", concluded the Vice-rector of Culture and Well-being of the Universidad del Cauca.
