The VI Paz Regional Meeting was held in Popayán with the participation of Unicauca.

The event was organized by different organizations with the support of Higher Education Institutions of Cauca and Valle.  The Colombian High Commissioner for Peace attended the event.

"We are trying to sign the end of armed conflict in Havana but we built the peace together from the territories in this kind of scenarios with the participation of civil society and its various organizations," said High Commissioner Sergio Jaramillo.

Ana Elvira Perrilla, national coordinator of the Regional Peace Forums, addressed the role of the agendas of the organizations within the peace process.

"Indigenous, afros and farmers communities have expressed that a key point is the issue of land and territory use, the presence of multinationals and the position taken by the government in historical agendas of organizations," she said.

The vice-rector of Culture and Welfare, Paloma Muñoz, said that the participation of all communities is very important for this historic moment in Colombia.

"Citizen participation is essential to help implement agreements to end the conflict and to agree on the issues affecting peace and directly touching the life forms in the regions and territories," concluded Ms. Muñoz.

The National Network of Regional Development Programs and Peace, The Initiatives Network and Communities of Peace, The Peaceful Path of Women and Social Thought and Action organized the event, with the support of the Universidad del Cauca, including IES.
