At the University of Cauca, we are supportive!

Representatives of our university community, headed by the rector Deibar René Hurtado Herrera, traveled to the municipality of Rosas to deliver the donations collected in the framework of the "Tod@s por Rosas, Cauca" campaign and with the proposal to articulate a plan of command with different academic units and institutions to find ways out of the serious situation that occurs in the south of the department.

Last Monday, January 16, 2023, the University of Cauca arrived in the municipality of Rosas with the humanitarian contributions collected for the families that were affected by the recent emergency in the area. Likewise, thanks to the accompaniment of different areas of the University, an interesting process began to determine other forms of support, which includes activities of culture, well-being, psychosocial support for the affected communities, as well as the analysis and search for solutions - from the field of civil engineering - to the problems derived from the collapse of several mountains.

“We have proposed a university of excellence and solidarity that manages to transform lives through its academic, investigative, and social projection work and, also, a university that manages to be a unifying institution that helps us build a collective we. Thus, the university does not turn its back on its own reality which, today, has enormous social, economic and academic repercussions. The idea is that the university articulates with other institutions to help the community of Rosas - Cauca that needs it so much”, stated the rector of the University of Cauca, Deibar René Hurtado Herrera.

In this way, from Alma Máter the solidarity campaign "Tod@s por Rosas, Cauca" was led, with the aim of joining efforts and supporting the people who live in this municipality in southern Cauca, allowing as a positive balance of the solidarity day, the delivery of some important donations that were delivered to the affected area.

María Socorro Rodríguez, a resident of the village of La Soledad, spoke about the situation of people in the municipality. “Unfortunately we had to leave our land. Everything that helped us work. We are country people. It is very hard. I am with my husband and my 16-year-old girl, who has severe stress and my husband is in medical consultation. I know we have to get ahead. We are from the countryside and this confinement is very hard. We want them not to forget us, not to leave us alone, ”she concluded.
