La Universidad -

Professors from the Department of Accounting Sciences, representing our Alma Mater, presented six papers and delivered a keynote address virtually at the XXI Ibero-American Congress on Management Control (CIBEC) 2024, held from September 16 to 20 in Cartagena.

The XXI Ibero-American Congress on Management Control is a platform aimed at consolidating the academic community of Ibero-America by presenting and discussing academic, professional, and research articles in the fields of management control, innovation for development, and Management Accounting. It was precisely within this significant event organized by the Ibero-American Association of Management Control (AICOGestión) that the research professors from the Department of Accounting Sciences, along with members of the Finance and Management GREIFG research groups, and Accounting, Society, and Development, showcased their work at the University of Antioquia, proudly representing our institution.

The Unicaucan representation began with the presentation “Financial Sustainability in SMEs: A Financial Model Based on Dynamic Capabilities” by Professor Norman Caldón during the VII Doctoral Colloquium, with a counter-presentation by Dr. José Berbel from the University of Valencia, Spain. Additionally, Professor Juan Ignacio Oviedo contributed with the presentation titled “A Perspective on Categorization and Classification of IT Tools from the Resource-Based View,” followed by Professor Viviana Patricia Narváez’s talk on “The Integration of ESG Matters into Key Audit Matters (KAM): An Analysis of Colombian Companies.” The University of Cauca’s contributions continued with “Paradigms of Business Information” by Professor Guillermo Cuellar Mejía and with Professor Zoraida Ramírez Gutiérrez presenting two papers: “Exploring the Link Between Financial Capabilities and Organizational Learning in SMEs: A State-of-the-Art Analysis” and “Efficiency Rankings in Public Universities and Their Relation to World University Rankings: A Study in Colombia and Spain.”

In this regard, Professor Zoraida Ramírez Gutiérrez emphasized that topics such as “climate, environmental care, sustainability in data analytics, and digital transformation” are essential for the curricular reform processes in the Faculty of Accounting, Economic, and Administrative Sciences, as they aim to “provide a new perspective on research training in our undergraduate and master’s programs.”

The participation of Unicaucan professors, made possible by the support of the Faculty of Accounting, Economic, and Administrative Sciences and the Center for Quality Management and Institutional Accreditation, concluded with the virtual keynote address at the II Forum on Teaching Innovation and Economic and Financial Education, where Professor Eliana Fernández focused her presentation on “Global Perspectives in Economic and Financial Education: Strategies to Prepare Future Generations.”

Finally, we are pleased to share that professors from the Public Accounting program presented their work at various agenda events, including the VII Doctoral Colloquium, XIV Research Forum on Challenges in Management Accounting and Control, and the II Forum on Teaching Innovation and Economic and Financial Education.

From this center of thought, we celebrate the importance of showcasing the research conducted by talent associated with our Alma Mater in various forums. This not only highlights the name of our beloved University but also provides our faculty members with opportunities to enrich their knowledge and strengthen ties with other institutions. In doing so, we reaffirm our commitment to delivering quality education for future generations. Congratulations to our professors for their outstanding representation!
