Unicaucana Professor Receives Recognition from the Colombian Association of Human Genetics
During the closing ceremony of the V International Symposium on Human Genetics: Symposium on Genomics and Precision Medicine in the Andean Region 'Laboratory Research - Clinic,' held from June 13 to 15, 2024, in the city of Cali, Dr. María Amparo Acosta Aragón, a professor at Universidad del Cauca, received a prestigious recognition from the Colombian Association of Human Genetics.
At our Alma Mater in Cauca, we have very talented professors who also dedicate their lives to scientific endeavors, a great commitment that yields results not only in the communities they impact but also through important organizations such as the Colombian Association of Human Genetics. This time, the association awarded a significant recognition to Dr. Amparo Acosta. She is a professional who has focused her academic and professional career on human genetics, a fundamental work for the strengthening of this field of knowledge, contributing to the development of her research, clinical practice, and the training of new specialists.
"I shall pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do, let me do it now, for I shall not pass this way again," quotes Dr. Amparo when referring to the path she has followed during her years as a physician and university professor. Hence, it is important to note that the honored professor is a specialist in Genetics, holds a doctorate in Human Population Genetics, and is currently a professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the Universidad del Cauca, as well as the academic director of the Center for the Care of Congenital Anomalies and Rare Diseases (CACER) at San José University Hospital. She has focused her work on the diagnosis, management, and comprehensive treatment of patients with Mucopolysaccharidosis, a work that has earned her great recognition from the international scientific community and has made her a role model. Undoubtedly, Professor Amparo is a testament to excellence and leadership, inspiring future generations of medical geneticists to continue exploring and expanding the boundaries of their knowledge.
