Unicauca teachers participate in the book "History and Contributions of Forest Engineering in Colombia"

The professors of the Forest Engineering program: Juan Carlos Villalba Malaver, Jorge Andrés Ramírez Correa, José Franco Alvis Gordo, Juan Pablo Paz Concha, Alex Enrique Ordoñez Hoyos and Román Ospina Montealegre wrote the chapter called "University of Cauca, Faculty of Agrarian Sciences, Forest Engineering Program ".

 

A team of professors from the Forest Engineering program of the University of Cauca participated in the publication Volume III of the book History and Contributions of Forest Engineering in Colombia. "State of the Art of Forest Engineering from the Regions". The teachers wrote the chapter "University of Cauca, Faculty of Agrarian Sciences, Forest Engineering Program".

 

The book was finished publishing in November 2020, within the framework of the commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the Colombian Association of Forest Engineers ACIF and is oriented towards the identification of contributions of Forest Engineering, with emphasis on the last decade, without leaving aside from the historical component, in order to review some elements that allow us to compare the before and now of ACIF's participation in the management of forest resources.

 

The chapter authored by the teachers of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Cauca addresses among its topics: Forest Engineering at the University of Cauca: History and Challenges; Strengths of the Forest Engineering Program; Research Lines and Social Projection; Strategies for the Performance of Our Graduates in the World; Relevant Projects in each of the Lines of the Program and Projection of the Forest Engineering Program.

 

“In order to maintain and manage the goods and services that are the product of said forest wealth, contribute to reducing the pressure on natural forests and influence the production chain, the Forest Engineering Program of the University of Cauca was created. The Program began in Popayán in 1999 through Agreement No. 040 of September 10, 1999 of the Superior Council of the University of Cauca. It received the Qualified Registry for the first time in 2004 and has been renewed by the Ministry of National Education in 2011 and 2018. The Program is offered at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and considers a theoretical-practical methodology with a duration of five years. To date, about 3002 students have graduated from our program and fortunately many of them work in environmental areas of the Department and the Country, contributing to the management of forests and territories”.
