Unicauca students who are abroad begin their return to Colombia

La Universidad -

8 of the 27 students from the University of Cauca who participate in academic exchanges at universities in Mexico, Brazil, France and Germany, are in preventive isolation in Bogotá.

"Some of these students had or have financial support through scholarships or agreements that guarantee their permanence in good conditions abroad, others, carried out these experiences with their own resources or those of their parents, and they are the most affected taking into account the current economic conditions, which have produced changes in the income of their families and as a consequence have made it difficult for them to support themselves outside their homes and return to the country, ”says Henry François Tarlin, head of the Office of Inter-institutional and International Relations.

List of students and countries where they are:

Argentina ……………………………… 3

Brazil …………………………………… one

Chile ……………………………………. 2

Spain ………………………………… 4

United States ………………………. one

Mexico …………………………………. 13

Peru ……………………………………. one

Germany ………………………………. one

France …………………………………. one

He adds that the students have received permanent advice from the University Administration, Rectory and Vice-rectories, as well as from the university offices that support academic mobility, which have been permanently looking for ways and alternatives to support the return of students to the country.

The return option is within the framework of Resolution 1032 of April 8, 2020, issued by Migración Colombia, Special Administrative Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that regulates the transit of nationals and foreigners in Colombia. Humanitarian flights have been an alternative offered by the Government for the return of citizens to the country, it should be noted that these humanitarian flights are coordinated by the Ministry of Transport, the Foreign Ministry and very directly by the Colombian Embassies and Consulates. Depending on the airline or date of the return tickets that the students had purchased, their return may have a cost, just as they must guarantee that they can afford the accommodation and food to spend their days of preventive isolation.

“The work that has been carried out jointly by the universities belonging to ASCUN, through its Internationalization Office, has been important; Universities and students have been represented at working tables in which representatives of different corporations from the National Government participate, and thus, through this channel, we have been able to accurately report the official decisions taken from the instances that participate in these meetings”.
