Unicauca Students Present Findings from Their Entomology Research

The 51st Congress of the Colombian Society of Entomology (SOCOLEN) provided a platform for undergraduate and graduate students from the University of Cauca to present their research on the ecology, DNA, and diversity of bees, beetles, butterflies, moths, dragonflies, wasps, and dipterans, among other groups.

With a delegation of 22 undergraduate students from the Biology program and 3 from the Master’s in Biology, all members of the Functional Diversity and Ecosystem Services Research Group (GEA), the University of Cauca participated in the 51st Congress of the Colombian Society of Entomology (SOCOLEN). The event took place on July 10, 11, and 12 at the Universidad Santiago de Cali, bringing together various stakeholders interested in insect studies to share research results and advancements in the knowledge and management of this diverse group.

Accompanied by María Cristina Gallego Ropero, a professor in the Biology Department, researcher, and curator of the Entomology Collection at the Museum of Natural History, the students participated as speakers in both oral presentations and poster sessions.

During their presentations, they shared advancements and results from various research projects focused on insects. They presented findings on the ecology, DNA, and diversity of bees, beetles, butterflies, moths, dragonflies, wasps, dipterans, and other groups, representing the University of Cauca.
