Unicauca Stereo, 32 years building the sound universe of cultures
March 28 is a special date for the University of Cauca, the reason? On that day, the public interest station of our Alma Mater celebrates 32 years serving the community, providing an educational, diverse and inclusive programming schedule. Its radio content and musical spaces are the result of the articulation between students, teachers, administrators, graduates and external people, who in each program print their passion for radio and for connecting their knowledge with a critical audience that is in constant transformation and that feeds back the constructive dialogue that gives life to university radio.
This dream began to come true on December 12, 1990, when test broadcasts began, after obtaining authorization from the Ministry of Communications (now the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies). For four months the equipment was adjusted, until on March 28, 1991, it was officially inaugurated with an academic ceremony at the Francisco José de Caldas Auditorium of the University of Cauca.
Throughout these 32 years, many names have been written on the pages of this book, thousands of voices have recorded the daily events, through these microphones, Unicauca Estéreo has been a faithful witness of the live changes that society has had, which does not cease and which commits this means of communication every day, with the informative work, quality entertainment and the formation of a public opinion based on analysis and reflection.
Today, this university radio continues to take on great challenges, providing quality content to its various audiences 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; to continue at the forefront adapting traditional radio to the new trends and dynamics of the citizenry; and connect the territory, not only through the 104.1 FM dial, but also through the 93.6 FM frequency with an operating license for Santander de Quilichao, thanks to the university commitment to consolidate the presence of the University of Cauca in the north of the department.
And since our first 32 years of cultural life deserve to be celebrated in style, we are going to celebrate as it should be: in the company of our reason for being, our audience!
The radio collective 'Factor RH, rock in your veins', made up of Javier Betancourt, Hernando Flores, Andrés Felipe Muñoz and Diana Velasco, celebrate 26 years of uninterrupted work contributing to the formation of specialized rock audiences and the strengthening of the scene in the city of Popayan.
To celebrate its 26th anniversary, the Factor RH collective, the University of Cauca and the Corporación Universitaria Autónoma del Cauca, with the support of the Mayor's Office of Popayán, join forces and efforts in order to create a Festival that is established as an event city, in which we will provide spaces for dialogue, knowledge about the culture of rock and healthy recreation, where expressions of art, music and literature come together that contribute to the consolidation of a culture of peace and healthy coexistence in the young university students from Popayán.
