Unicauca receives three patents from the Industry and Commerce Superintendence (SIC)
The intellectual property rights of the products is linked to products generated from research at the Alma Mater.
Obtaining biodegradable packaging and films from cassava starch and an antimicrobial used for food preservation are the results obtained exclusive licenses to be produced.
"These products are closely related to environmental conservation and the relationship between academia and suppliers of raw material transformed into products with high level of innovation”, said Felipe Figueroa, expert in patent and intellectual property rights.
The Vice-rector of research, Hugo Cosme, said that behind the success of the institution is the effort of the research groups of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences.
"One of these investigations was led by professor Reinaldo Velasco and other two by professor Hector Samuel Villada. They also recognized the students who made this process possible among the authors of the projects" he added.
Next step is to organize technology development centers using the three patents to generate benefits for the University.
