Unicauca Launches New Website: The Alma Mater of Cauca Modernizes Ahead of Its Bicentennial
On Friday, August 9, at the Tulcán University Sports Center, the University of Cauca celebrated the launch of its new website with a memorable event that brought together all three university constituencies as well as interested members of the public. This historic milestone marks a significant step towards the modernization of the institution in preparation for its bicentennial, a result of the hard work led by the talent nurtured here.
As part of its Institutional Development Plan 2023-2027, "For a University of Excellence and Solidarity," the University of Cauca has established the "Modernization of Administrative and Functional Processes" as one of its strategic pillars. The launch of this new website reflects this commitment, facilitating more efficient and accessible processes for both the university community and the public. This achievement is the result of the collective effort of interdisciplinary Unicaucano talent, led by the Division of Information and Communication Technologies, with support from students in Systems Engineering, Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications, Graphic Design, and Social Communication, who brought this vision to fruition.
For over 25 years, the University of Cauca used the same website, a tool that supported and facilitated many institutional achievements. However, the time for evolution and transformation has arrived. To bid farewell to the old portal and welcome a new digital era, the University organized a spectacular event. Starting at 5 p.m., the University Sports Center was illuminated with a special setup, featuring lights, screens, live music, guest artists, and the active participation of students, faculty, staff, and university administrators.
The event began with remarks from the rector, Dr. Deibar René Hurtado Herrera, who highlighted the significance of the new platform: “This website integrates many of the initiatives we are advancing in terms of technological transformation. It is our introduction to society, as through it, citizens can see how we are investing and honoring the public resources that our public university so critically needs. Most importantly, it allows people to learn about our undergraduate and graduate program offerings,” he said, excited to see this milestone come to fruition.

For his part, the Administrative Vice-Rector, Engineer Jorge Adrián Muñoz Velasco, formally introduced the new website. As the former head of the Division of Information and Communication Technologies, he led this administrative modernization project for a significant period. “It is about the well-being of people because improving these tools streamlines administrative, academic, research, and outreach processes, thus evolving on the path towards the bicentennial,” said the Vice-Rector, highlighting the significant challenge of this process and his satisfaction in seeing it come to fruition.
The new website of the University of Cauca is designed to be inclusive and accessible to all. People with visual impairments can now navigate easily thanks to an accessibility button that guides each step, and those with different abilities will find tools designed to enhance their experience and access the information they need.
And as this momentous occasion could not go unnoticed, the entire event was enlivened by local talent. The perfect atmosphere for the occasion was created by DJ Rokky, known as "The Blind DJ Who Makes People Dance," a talented DJ who added the perfect touch to this special date, demonstrating that when life goals are set and a path is defined, no limitation can clip our wings. Thus, from a university that has defined solidarity as one of its main institutional principles, there is coherence between discourse and action. Additionally, the event featured performances by urban artists from Popayán, such as Edizzy, Saoz, and JotaP, as well as Unicaucano talent Marshall, who delighted the audience with their live performances. These young artists, like our university, dream big and are transforming their lives with their talent and creativity.

From this house of study and regional thought, we celebrate the realization of this dream and express gratitude to each person who contributed to making this new digital face possible. We look forward to continuing to meet the goals set in the Institutional Development Plan, as our greatest motivation is to provide the necessary well-being to our community, considered our most valuable asset.
Finally, we invite you to visit the new website at www.unicauca.edu.co, explore it, and share your experience with us. As at Unicauca we dream big, we will continue to evolve and provide even more information, as is natural with such major projects.
